 Circle construction log

Following the stock market flotation of the council-owned telecoms company Kingston Communications in July 1999, Kingston Upon Hull City Council  announced a variety of projects to be funded by the resulting windfall. The most exciting venture announced was the proposed development of a £45m sports and leisure complex at The Circle, off Anlaby Road, including a 25,000 seater stadium for use by the city's professional sporting clubs. Outline planning permission was granted in December 2000 and in September 2001, Birse Construction Limited were named as the main contractor. The Council's Development Management Committee approved several planning applications related to the development on 3rd October and by the end of that month, Birse Stadia moved onto the site to begin excavation work.
