PODCAST: TWTWT Podcast 121

Recorded before we drew Newcastle in the quarter finals, our latest podcast discusses the win at Bristol City in the League Cup and the previous Saturday’s execrable defeat to Stoke. We talk 3-5-2, goalkeepers and the new assistant head coach, and look ahead to Watford this weekend by remembering one or two era-defining visits there in the past.

With City’s goal keeper situation the choice has to come down to form. Simply, Marshall is in poor form and Jakupovic is in great form. Therefore, Jakupovic should get the nod.

I notice Jakupovic is also fired up, thumping his City badge on his chest and reveling in saving shots and keeping the opposition out. This builds a “defend the Alamo” mentality in City’s defense that they all pick up on, especially Davies. Contrast Marshall: quiet, dour and slow to get to shots. Justifying Marshall’s position by his price tag is pathetic, there has to be true competition for places for City to thrive. If Jakupovic was dropped for his Arsenal performance, then by that same standard Marshall has to be dropped for his mediocre to poor performances so far.

Note also all City’s points have come with Jakupovic in goal.
