City’s reward for easily overcoming Middlesbrough yesterday is a Fourth Round tie away to Southend.
They are of course managed by Phil Brown, lending even further interest to an already intriguing looking tie. Though presently in the bottom division, the Shrimpers are having a decent season, currently in fourth place. It means that despite the considerable gap between the two sides, Southend will approach the game fancying an upset.
For City, a fixture against lower division opposition presents both opportunities and threats: the risk of an embarrassing defeat being offset against the prospect of qualification should a strong team be selected, or if we perform as strongly against Middlesbrough.
A good Cup draw, and barring a television intervention, the game will be played on Saturday 25th January.
