Paul McShane capped an outstanding personal performance with the winning goal as City attained their regular annual win at Nottingham Forest.
The Irish defender bundled the ball in from very close range with 20 minutes left after a low Robert Koren corner went through the Forest rearguard on the near post. The home fans claimed handball, which admittedly did seem a possibility.
In what wasn’t a compelling game, City drew first blood courtesy of Robert Koren’s 34th minute penalty following a trip on David Meyler, but Forest equalised through a Billy Sharp spot kick just before the break after Robbie Brady fouled him.
Few chances were created by either team afterwards, but once McShane had scored it took a couple of good saves from David Stockdale late on to keep City ahead. That’s three wins at the City Ground in three straight years now, and the Tigers are up to fifth. Match report later.
