A goal from ex-Tiger Dean Marney was enough for Burnley to beat City for the seventh straight occasion in a largely featureless match at the Circle.
Marney’s turn and finish on 40 minutes was smart enough, though his decision to celebrate provocatively in front of the East Stand was rather less sensible.
Burnley had earlier hit the bar from distance through Ross Wallace and always looked the more capable side as Steve Bruce’s men had something of an off day. Stephen Quinn and sub Nick Proschwitz both had good chances in the second half but were off target.
Tuesday’s visit of Crystal Palace, who also lost today, will allow Bruce a quick opportunity to refresh the team, which looked leggy and short of ideas. Match report still later.
