An early goal and a late one proved enough for Cardiff as they beat a lifeless City in the Welsh capital.
Heidar Helguson beat Ben Amos to a free kick after just two minutes and took a punch in the head for his trouble, then skipper Mark Hudson flung himself at a cross with eight minutes left to seal another home win for the Bluebirds.
Jay Simpson had a goal disallowed late in the first half due to a handball earlier in the move, and though Robert Koren thumped in a last-ditch goal to offer late hope, the Tigers deservedly lost.
It was a thoroughly unsatisfactory display from City and manager Steve Bruce will make changes prior to next week’s game at Birmingham, while also hoping for a clean bill of health from this week’s international games. Match report later.
