Cardiff’s victory in tonight’s League Cup semi-final means the unlovely prospect of City’s fixture against the Bluebirds being rearranged to a Tuesday night – it was due to be played on Saturday 25th February, the day before the League Cup final.
There are no spare Saturdays between now and the end of the season into which the game can be moved, meaning a midweek trip to South Wales cannot be avoided. Displeasingly, the goal that gave Cardiff the 1-0 victory this evening was ineptly blundered into his own goal by ex-Tiger Anthony Gardner, and Paul McShane – recently loaned to Palace – was on the pitch as the Londoners lost on penalties.
Troublingly for the traveller, it could be just one of a series of lengthy journeys – the spectre of a midweek hike to Crawley cannot yet be discounted, while victory over them and another in the Fifth Round would mean the trip to Crystal Palace on March 17th being transferred into midweek…

Thought McShane was pretty good when he came on…Didn’t waste the ball! Gardener ; Bit of a mixed bag. Good in the air and some dodgy deflections in the box. Probably the worst set of penalties I’ve seen and ref Webb was poor! If he’s one of our best….! Must have seen the Cardiff player shirt pulling in the box>penalty Palace! Do Cardiff do falling over training… (aka diving)?
