Aaron Mclean’s second goal in as many games earned City a tremendous three points at the City Ground that took them back into the play-off positions.
Mclean ran on to a through ball from sub Paul McKenna on 74 minutes and, showing coolness his detractors felt he didn’t possess, picked his spot with a smart shot past exposed Forest keeper Lee Camp.
It was City’s clearest chance of a very tight game which Forest dominated, but Steve Cotterill’s side were unable to turn their keep-ball tactics into many chances, and the Tigers defence were excellent while Adriano Basso only had one proper save to make. The game became pretty much a carbon copy of City’s memorable win there last season, with even the goal bearing great similarity to Matt Fryatt’s winner in March.
That’s nine unbeaten now, sixth in the table and with a game in hand. This team of ours looks abler and handier by the week. Match report later.
