City registered a useful and comfortable 3-1 win over Fourth Division watertreaders Bradford City at the Circle last night.
Tom Cairney, again showing pleasing pre-season form, scored twice in the first half before Austrian triallist Martin Pusic, a left winger who was one of ten substitutes introduced at half time, scored a third.
Mark Stewart pulled a goal back for Bradford, then Jay Simpson was forced off with an injury that could see him miss the start of the season. There was no place at all for Paul McShane, whose heroic display at the weekend against Liverpool came at the cost of a calf injury that will keep him out for a couple of weeks. On the plus side, Andy Dawson was able to return to the team after injury.
Pusic will stay with the club for another week or so before a decision is made regarding whether to offer him a deal. As a left winger he doesn’t seem to fit the bill as far as target signings are concerned, with Robbie Brady now at the club and Cameron Stewart to return later, but nonetheless he impressed fans and manager last night.
City’s game with Bridlington Town tonight has been called off and now there is just the trip to Chesterfield this Saturday prior to the npower Championship opener against Blackpool on Friday August 5th.
