NEWS: Reading and Peterborough complete Championship line-up

The final places in the 2011/12 Championship have been settled – Reading’s defeat in the Championship play-off final today means they must try again next season, and following their 3-0 victory over Huddersfield at Old Trafford yesterday afternoon we welcome Peterborough to the second tier.

Reading we obviously know about, having exchanged 1-1s with them last season. Peterborough, well, nothing too exciting there. It may end the rumours about City signing Craig Mackail-Smith to add to former Posh striker Aaron Mclean, however it does at least mean we’ll get one terrace to enjoy next season. It’ll be our first trip to London Road since a Third Division game there in 2004, and also meant disappointment for Kevin Kilbane, on the losing side for Huddersfield. Of course, not going to Huddersfield is always a bonus, with early kick-offs and vast City defeats seemingly obligatory in that part of West Yorkshire – and it goes without saying that fewer trips to Wales isn’t something to be upset about…

  1. Where’s Craig M-S going? BBC pundits said lots of clubs after him, and implied his contract had run out. The commentator said it was his last game for Posh too… Looks very right footed to me…

  2. Yeah we don’t want him and his right foot and his prolific goal scoring round here do we. oh no.

  3. Very sarky, Rich! Too much vinegar on your chips? Said in Jan, that we should have paid the extra for him and/or the lad from Swindon. McLean first touch not great & his Champ. record certainly wasn’t prolific. (A saintly Nige mistake?) C. M-S might be be a bit too like Fryatt, however, so on the whole would prefer a “big lad upfront”…. not Adebola!!! Whoever’s upfront…need a leader in midfield though. P..s.; The right footed comment was a thought process wondering whether a PL club would want him…

  4. He’ll be off to Norwich by all accounts.

  5. On another topic… the Ex- Liberal leader of Newcastle council was on NEtv last night, threatening to sue Sepp & FIFA for the money wasted trying to promote Newcastle as a World Cup site. Now if everyone did this, maybe the wheels would come off this corrupt organisation! Doesn’t Hull have an ex-Liberal leader of council…….?
