RESULT: City 0 Millwall 1

After a performance like this, Hull City really don’t look like a play-off side even though the eventual defeat didn’t do a great deal of harm to the Tigers’ overall chances of making the cut.

After initially impressing, City fell behind to a smart Steve Morison lob on 33 minutes and rarely looked capable – or, indeed, interested – in levelling matters up afterwards.

Andy Dawson had a close range shot blocked after a mini-scramble, and very late on sub Jay Simpson fired a 25 yard half-volley narrowly wide, but this was a lifeless, bleak display from the Tigers, reminiscent of the early period of the season.

And yet, with seven games to go, there is still only a four-point margin separating City from sixth place and a turn in home fortune, plus a continuation of the contrarily amazing form on the road, could yet keep Nigel Pearson’s men in with a shout. Today’s effort, however, looked a million miles from a side wanting a quick Premier League return.

Millwall, for their part, looked tidy and controlled and may still harbour their own ambitions for a late play-off charge. Their fans – what few turned up, that is – remain a credit to nobody whatsoever.

A trip to Watford next, then. Match report soon.

  1. A hint of sour grapes with that last comment about us rather delightfull wall supporters. Thanks for the 6 points.

  3. I disagree with the Millwall song “no one likes us, we don’t care” in so far as I don’t really have any feelings for Millwall. Complete apathy. This probably annoys them more.
I also get confused at any fans (Millwall or other) who prefer to spend more time a) taunting opposing fans b) taunting their own players, than watching the match itself.

  4. I used to like taunting Citymeffs, mind.

  5. I like Millwall accents as they sing, rather tunefully well, their quiantly phrased signature song. I hate Hull City AFC and may now become a football tourist so as to see real football in real games in lower leagues.

  7. Ouch. What a bitchy remark at the end. Considering the difference between Hull’s support at The Den & ours at the KC was a mere 400 it’s hardly worth making a comment on at all. Especially if you factor in our match was moved to an early kick-off and we have a members only poilcy; as well as the fact that there are quite a few Hull City fans in and around London (having made a better lives for themselves).

Anyways, it’s a pity the relationship has turned sour as Wall & City were quite the Divisional buddies from the 60s to the 80s. Although, I can think of a few Millwall fans that of credit to themselves, namely David Haye, Danny Baker, Gary Oldman, Daniel Day Lewis and Neil Harris. Ahem.

Furthermore, the Millwall anthem of No One Likes Us, We Dont Care applies to the media & the FA, not to other fans as such. They certainly do not like us. We play on their mind constantly.
