Millwall’s victory at Wembley over Swindon on Saturday means that the Championship line-up for 2010/11 is now complete. The bookies have now priced up the 24 teams’ chances next season, which are always worth a look at during the summer and are as follows:
QPR 10/1
Burnley 12/1
Notts Forest 12/1
Cardiff 12/1
Middlesbrough 12/1
Leicester 14/1
Reading 14/1
Ipswich 16/1
Leeds 16/1
Bristol C 20/1
Norwich 20/1
Sheff Utd 20/1
Swansea 20/1
CITY 25/1
Portsmouth 25/1
Derby 30/1
Coventry 40/1
Millwall 40/1
Doncaster 50/1
Preston 50/1
Barnsley 66/1
C Palace 80/1
Watford 100/1
Scunthorpe 125/1
Those are all the highest prices on offer – City are as low as 14/1 with some firms. That discrepancy is among the widest of all of the clubs; evidently, with uncertainty over the manager, a player exodus, finances and the ability to avoid administration City’s chances next season are about the hardest to ascertain. What’s noticeable, after two years in the Premier League, is how open it all is. The longest price on offer for anyone in the Championship is Scunthorpe’s 125/1; in the Premier League, only six clubs have a price in double-figures or less, with the also-rans on offer at 10,000/1 with some bookies – which still feels a bit skinny.
So, we’re in for a more competitive season, that much has always been obvious. There’s no stand-out favourite, and even sixteenth-favourites Derby are only 30/1. Virtually anyone could win the League, or be relegated. After the predictability of the Premier League, that’s actually rather exciting.

I thought we’d be favourites but I guess Pearson could appoint a complete plonker as manager (again). Whatever happens, I believe we’re going to have a stronger squad then that of the 2007/08 season (with the exception of maybe a quality striker, lets hope we can hang onto JVoH)

Jan Vennegoor Of Hesselink, Olofinjana, Muyokolo and some of our youth players would rape the npower Championship. Let’s just hope we get rid of enough players to be able to afford to keep the ones we really need.
